Our Mission Statement: Elkins Mountain Schools provides intensive treatment services
to children and their families in an effort to help them live
responsible and productive lives.
Youth
today face many challenges. Sometimes, they need extra
support to overcome circumstances in their lives. At
Elkins Mountain Schools, we work to help children prepare
to be successful adults. Our committed staff work to
provide youth with guidance, education and opportunities
to help them discover a positive direction for their
lives. We work closely with families, professionals
and the community to make the success of each child
a priority.
Elkins Mountain Schools opened in 1987 in response to
the state's desire to keep West Virginia children needing
services closer to home rather than admitting them to
out-of-state programs.
Youth enrolled in our program receive intensive treatment
services designed to address their unique challenges.
These services are delivered in a campus and community
setting that is located in the rural mountains of eastern
West Virginia. This setting ensures the privacy of clients
yet there is also immediate access to community resources
and community social and recreational opportunities.
Elkins Mountain Schools provides residential services
to boys from 13 through 17 years of age, and community-based
services via our participation as a Youth Services contractor.
Our programs are highly structured, and we use an array
of behavioral management techniques. Committed staff
work closely with the clients and their families, providing
guidance and support. Through an educational and vocational
curriculum, counseling, and extracurricular and lifeskills
activities, Elkins Mountain Schools prepares the youth
in our program to live responsible and productive lives.
